Publications Collection
The Publications Collection here at the Sholesonian may be somewhat of a misnomer. When many of us think of publications we think of books, magazines, newspapers and other print material, and while the collection holds many specimens of this type the scope goes much deeper. Our 'publications' collection houses all types of media that represents expressions of people. While some specimens may be more appropriately classified as Historical Significance or Numismatics, vinyl records, works of art, historic newspapers, and others are all curated and stored under this collection.
This unique collection gives glimpses into how individuals, groups, and cultures think during different time periods. It offers historical records on significant events that shaped the world as well as small tokens that show an appreciation of the wonder and beauty of the world that transcends time. Publications allow ideas and opinions to be expressed and ever since the invention of the moveable type-printing press by Johannes Guttenburg these ideas can be mass-distributed allowing a deeper cultivation of these ideas and tying peoples together.
Continually expanding, the Sholesonian's Publications collection is proud to hold media artifacts that encompasses the viewpoints of many different cultures. And, over time, the Sholesonian Museum Library will house a variety of non-artifact books that may currently preside in a semi-stable state in the Publications department. Eventually the department will expand to include historic digital media, but for now continues with physical mediums. Enjoy the collections currently presiding in the Publications Collection at the Sholesonian!
